THE Approach to Student and School Transformation

Students prepare for and practice taking ownership of their own learning motivated by the time and space their efforts and skills earn, successfully pursuing and achieving their chosen academic, professional, and personal goals using team methodologies.

Tier III

THE Preparation

THE Tier III goal is student mastery of the 4R's; Responsibility, Respect, Resourcefulness, and Resilience. Student mastery demonstrates readiness for the next tiers and serves as a model for students requiring more instruction, support, and practice to attain mastery. THE Approach moves the vast majority of students toward Tier III mastery using intrinsic adolescent motivations. Remaining students continue to receive traditional school behavioral support with the additional benefit of positive peer examples and a school culture that make successful behaviors visible, attainable, and socially rewarding.

Tier II

THE Learning

THE Tier II goal is student mastery of the knowledge, understanding, application, and communication of the worthwhile goal setting and achievement process. Students, alongside school instructional staff, use existing curriculum learning goals as exemplars and practical application models, building the prerequisite skills for student-directed goal attainment and success. Consistently applying THE goal fundamentals in the learning process demonstrates readiness for the expanded voice and choice success opportunities available in Tier I.

Tier I

THE Success

THE Tier I goal is sustained, successful self-directed student academic, professional, and personal goal setting, pursuit and achievement in a team supported environment. Tier I students, capable of working independently and in small groups, are given ever greater voice and choice over the time and spaces they work in during the school day. Instructional time becomes a resource used judiciously and effectively. Lightly monitored practice and application time becomes personalized and motivational. Tier I skills knowledge, understanding, application, and experience transfer directly to those required of successful, self-directed young adults in school and beyond.
